What is a Key Signature?
A key signature is a set of sharp (♯) or flat (♭) symbols placed on the staff at the beginning of a piece of music, after the clef. These symbols indicate which pitches are to be played higher (sharpened) or lower (flattened) throughout the piece.
Introduction to the Key Signature of C, G, D Major and A minor
Tip: when reading a key signature:
- In a Major Scale with sharps, to find the key signature, we look for the last sharp, that is the seventh grade of the scale. For example, if the last sharp is on F♯, the key is G Major.
